About this event
Wando River: Paradise Island landing into Frances Marion Forest Loop trip.
About 12 miles, Rating: L2, semi sheltered, smooth pace
Where: Be ready to launch from Paradise Landing by 10:00. Put Paradise Boat Landing in your mapping app.
Logistics: High tide in the forest is about 1:45. We want a lot of water in the narrow section of the river.. We’ll paddle with the tide into the forest until the river becomes too narrow to proceed. We’ll turn back and stop at a “get out place” in the forest that we would have passed on the way upstream for a break. We’ll paddle back against the very last of the incoming tide.
Expect to be back at the landing by 3:00
Trip leader: Zan Gregory
Note 1: Ralph Earhart will hold a “Tide Talk” session from 9-9:30. He will talk about tidal stations, planning trips around the time of the tide change, and river levels after heavy rains. You can read about this topic on pages 44-49 in his Update to the 5th edition via a link on the club’s home page. Even if you do not plan to paddle, you are welcome to join him at 9AM.
