Florida Springs in November
Dan Hoke

Instead of a Jocassee trip this year I'm now looking at a camp centrally located in Florida for people wanting to try something different. This is a camp recommended by a club member who likes to visit yearly.

They have very nice cabins, spaces for campers and tents. We will have a drive each day to most of the best spring fed rivers, both on the coast and in Ocola National Forest. Plus we can launch from the camp into the Withlacoochee River. I have now rented a cabin Nov 3-10 and will love to have company. Julie and I have paddled most of these streams and can't say enough. Gin clear spring water at 72 degrees and I do expect to have some up close and personal visits with Manatees. Come down and just stay for a long weekend or spend the week, it should be good. I need to add some notes on this trip. First take time to read all the small print on the camp. Most complaints seem to come from people not reading first. As an example they do have a number of add-on charges you need to be aware of. Same with small kids. They are a bit like LCP in that if you don't oversee your kids the camp will not like you. They do not have an online registration option. If you leave a message at the listed phone # they are a bit slow to respond. Here is a better #: 352-726-2002.

Second look them up on Google Maps and study the area. Here is a good link to Florida springs: You'll note the camp is not next to any spring, but it's equal distant to a lot of good springs, both on the coast and in central Fl. The springs are rated as to their volume of out-flow. The camp is located right on a great blackwater river. Some of the waters I plan to hit this week are Crystal Springs, Wicki-Wachee Spring and Juniper Spring. Some spings have shuttle options, some we launch and return from a central landing. All the springs are unique in there own way.

Ocola, a bit north of the camp is the center of Florida's horse country with rolling hills. A nice region.

Contact me if you have any questions.

I just signed up for site 34a on the riverfront on Nov. 3 - 10. I am bringing my 17' travel trailer, a screen house and (hopefully) my sister from Colorado. She is worried that she won't be able to paddle fast enough to "keep up" with us but I told her that it wouldn't be a problem. I have paddled some of these springs and if she wants to go slowly to look at the interesting plants of creatures of Florida, then we will meet you back at the campground. Does that sound like an accurate description of the spirit of this trip?

Looking at a cabin to take Jones with me.... If I do that, does anyone or people want to get a cabin together.

My only quirks are that I get up early, have thw pup, and will snack all of the time. I do share so, could be to your benefit.😁

Really just need a secured place for him to be in with have AC, again, for him.

Hello LCP Friends,

Tara and I have reserved a cabin, 24A, at this time. We have room for more and currently "accepting applications" for those looking to go and help reduce the expenses of the cabin.

Full disclosure, there will be an adorable white baby-dog with us. He will likely also pass gas and snore! LOL!

See you all again soon.

Looks like Randy & I missed a fantastic picnic! Enjoyed the pictures & seeing the faces of good friends though!
We are getting settled here and things are coming together now - (at least there are more empty boxes than there are full ones!).
We look forward to being with the group in November!
Our new address is 3260 Treetop Dr., Titusville, FL 32780
