Trip leader training is for all
Author Last Post
OK, Ralph's email was persuasive. I'm returning to Charleston today and I will do my best to be there tomorrow. I think there was something about practicing rescues in Leslie's original email which I am not going to attempt. I'll do the educational part and the paddle.

Paddlers,

The wind forecast for Saturday is 5-6 mph. Just perfect for a hot July day.

Please note that Leslie invited everyone who is a trip leader or may become one some day to come on Saturday.

The Club really needs folks to understand what a trip leader needs to do.

Even if you don't feel comfortable going out on the water, being at the ground school is important and opens up future possibilities to you as a club member.

(I'm recovering form a cold and may not feel up to paddling with the group...but I'm still coming to the ground school.)

Please note:

  1. Leslie wants people in boats 14 feet or longer
  2. Parking spaces designated for vehicles with trailers (the elongated ones) are NOT to be used by just cars on weekends or holidays. Do not park in a trailer designed space.

Here is Leslie's e mail in case you did not read it.

Hope to see a bunch of you tomorrow at Remleys landing. (Put "Remleys Point Public landing" in your phone mapping ap.)

Ralph Earhart

Elsa is coming our way and like all of you I have been watching the weather forecast. It looks like the storm will be past us by Saturday, so I think we will be able to have our trip leader paddle as planned.

So, If you have been a trip leader or if you have been thinking about leading a trip at some point, come and join us. If the winds are still high we may decide not to launch and hold “ground school” in the grassy area at the far end of the parking lot. But the plan remains to paddle around Drum Island and stop on the far side where there is a sandy beach and a good spot for in-water practice.

Please come prepared to paddle one mile across open water to Drum island and back.

…a kayak of at least 14ft is required. Bring your spray skirt. Also bring your ideas, thoughts and let’s talk about what we do well as trip leaders and what we can do even better.

See you on Saturday!

Leslie
