Status of Folly Beach Boat Landing: do NOT park a ...
Author Last Post
The proposed PRC kayak throw in on the other side of the bridge was still only to have 7 parking spaces.
They are just limited as there is no free land for more parking

An alternative is to pull over to the side, unload your boat/gear, then drive your car a block or 2 away to park on the side of the street. All 4 tires need to be within the white line, parked in the direction of traffic, not in front of a driveway, not too close to a Stop sign or an intersection.

I have emailed the Folly Beach police chief and spoken with an official from the county parks about car parking at the Folly Beach boat landing.

There is signage at the landing that says cars may not park in spots designated for trailer parking any time during the week. Folly Beach is having their parking contractor give out tickets for cars parked in trailer spots.

There are minimal car spaces in the parking lot. (8 I think).

Here is the issue: the boat landing is only 4 blocks from the beach. People have been taking their cars and using the landing in order to avoid paying for parking along the beach. This makes the lot unusable for boaters with trailers.

This signage will remain in place until beach traffic dies down.. I asked if it will be changed as of Labor Day and was told not to count on that.

Bottom line, arrive early at the landing if you do not have a trailer.

I will check back in September and check on the status of when the signage might change.

The county park is letting a contract for a kayak launch along the Folly River in the fall. Hopefully in the next few years kayakers without trailers will not have this problem. CCPRC knows folks want to launch kayaks on the Folly River. Folly Beach city is also setting up kayak launches by one of the bridges along Folly Road. These will be available in the next few years too.
