About this event
Wambaw Creek and Santee River
Sunday, March 30, 2025, 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM Eastern Time (US & Canada) (UTC-05:00)
March 30: Sunday): Wambaw Creek and Santee River: Wambaw Creek Bridge, up the Santee to Chicken Creek, and then back down Chicken Creek for the return leg. About 12 miles. Non club members and member guests must contact the trip leader before the trip. Boat type, size, and paddling skills should be discussed with the trip leader.
Rating: L3, sheltered
Where: Meet at Wambaw Creek Bridge and be ready to launch by 9:00.(Put Wambaw Creek Boat Ramp in your mapping app. Do not be confused with Wambaw Creek Still Landing...that is the wrong landing). Launch by9:00 . Logistics: High tide on the Santee at the South Santee intersection is about 11:00. We’ll go against the incoming tide for about 2 miles going out Wambaw Creek. The incoming tide will help us go up the South Santee River. We’ll take a break at the intersection of Chicken Creek and the Santee River and then paddle back with the falling tide to Wambaw Creek, where out last 2 miles will be against the outgoing tide. Expect to be back at the landing by 3:00 Trip leader: Ralph Earhart
Note 1: We will have about 4 miles total going against the tide, but on Wambaw Creek, it really is not much of an issue.
Note 2: If the Santee River is high, this will not work. If that happens, the club will be notified and the trip will be moved to Wadboo Creek, going upstream on Saturday, the day before.
